LA-04: The AP Hasn't Called This Race ...

Although the Secretary of State is reporting that Fleming (R) has 356 more votes tonight in the unofficial tallies of electronic and absentee voting.  Might it be provisional ballots?  What's causing the AP to hold back?

Aight, we've got 640 precincts in this district ... it's a large district, roughly the size of the entire state of Rhode Island, methinks.  With 640 of 640 precincts in:

Candidate Votes % of Vote
Paul Carmouche (D) 44,141 47.69%
John Fleming (R) 44,497 48.07%

It's down to Bossier Parish, y'all ... a traditionally GOP parish.  Folks, this one is gonna get REALLY REALLY REALLY close.  All precincts in save for 37 from Bossier Parish.

The numbers are not going to add up to 100% because there are two minor party candidates that will only take roughly 3-4% of the vote at the most.  My guess is they'll combine for 2% when it's all in.

DAMNIT!  356 freaking votes!

Fleming up 53-44 (0.00 / 0)
Fleming leading 53-44 based on 5 precincts from DeSoto which McCain won last month by 56-43.

Yeah, it's early Randy ... (0.00 / 0)

I heard they were tied in Natchitoches (0.00 / 0)

From where? (0.00 / 0)
Nothing's come in from Natchitoches!

WOW. The early voting? (0.00 / 0)
That's incredible!

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

That's actually a good sign, Randy ... (0.00 / 0)
The GOP down here really works to get their folks to early vote or absentee vote.  The Dems down here didn't until this year.  So the fact that it's tied right now in Natchitoches is a GOOD sign.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

Thinking of the car crash ad (0.00 / 0)
Is there a sense that the graphic car crash ad may have turned people off?

It may have ... because it was blatantly false (0.00 / 0)

The ad Randy's talking about is below: (0.00 / 0)

The Shreveport TImes called prior attacks on Carmouche's crime-fighting record false and misleading.

I'm calling it for Carmouche (0.00 / 0)

I wouldn't be so quick ... (0.00 / 0)
Bossier is likely to make it close

The real winner in this election is (0.00 / 0)
Chester T. "Catfish" Kelley:

Carmouche wins in Fleming's home parish (0.00 / 0)
Carmouche won Webster Parish, Fleming's home parish.

Embarrassing for Fleming.

I've been refreshing all night (0.00 / 1)
...and I want to adopt Catfish as my grandpa

It's all about Bossier Parish right now (0.00 / 1)
It's the only place Fleming has to pick up some votes.  There are 65 precincts outstanding, and it's the only place he will beat Carmouche convincingly.  But will it be enough?

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

Bossier City (0.00 / 0)
Is the key.

Fleming will win the outlying areas and towns like Benton. If Carmouche can just tie Fleming in Bossier City, he should make it through.

Still 20+ precincts left in Cadoo (0.00 / 0)
I wonder where they are.

I know we're all a little on edge right now... (0.00 / 0)
But this should take some of the edge off.

Are the absentee and early votes already in? (0.00 / 0)

Typically (0.00 / 0)
They're counted first. So, probably.

This is a heart breaker. 350 votes. Unbelievable.

I can't find the law on recounts in the State... (0.00 / 0)
Ryan does point out that this was the closest election in that district in 20 years. The incumbent was a Republican, the district is heavily Republican, and the Democrat NEARLY won. I'm trying to see the silver lining here.

Perhaps if Carmouche had played more to economic issues and lambasted Fleming's wingnut ridiculousness (and his plan to implement a 23% national sales tax), things would have been different.

I think we're all a little tired of Democrats trying to "out-Republican" the Republican candidate on social issues.

[ Parent ]
Perhaps if Carmouche would have like....showed up at some stuff. (0.00 / 0)
...I'm still really proud of him, though.

Campaign just said they can't do a recount of the electronic ballots... (0.00 / 1)

[ Parent ]
So that would mean they can only recount absentee (0.00 / 0)
Are the electronic machines really THAT reliable? It seems crazy that you can't recount on electronic machines.

[ Parent ]
Maybe provisionals? But I'm not sure how many we could net from that. (0.00 / 0)
