The Old River Road, the Kingfish of the Louisiana Right, expresses dismay that Governor PBJ publicly expressed his support for State Senator Rob Marionneaux to be the next Executive Secretary of the Public Service Commission, by calling it the wrong kind of bipartisanship. Not to pick a fight with the fine bloggers over at The Old River Road, but when Republicans talk about bipartisanship, they generally mean Democrats who will do what they want ... think Zell Miller or Joe Lieberman, folks.
Anyhow, the position is opening up because the current Executive Secretary, Lawrence St. Blanc, who has served in that capacity since 1995, is retiring this month.
While Old River Road has taken the hyper-partisan view of PBJ's move ... I'm betting PBJ's backing of Marionneaux was done simply because it helps remove a potential Democratic challenger from next year's Senate race. After all, Mr. Marionneaux has been mentioned as a potential candidate by national sources, and was rumored to be waiting on Jim Bernhard's decision on whether to run before announcing a campaign of his own.
