| The Sinning Senator David Vitter is at it again ... letting folks know he's accessible, and amenable to answering their questions at town halls. Indeed, last Monday, he appeared on the Moon Griffon show and had this exchange with Mr. Griffon: (emphasis added)
Vitter: Absolutely. Absolutely. I know, just for my part we're doing town halls all around the state, and I want people to come out and have that sort of discussion, and folks should do it to all the other members as well.
Griffon: And no doubt. And matter of fact, I got some clips of other Congressmen, especially Democrats, who are really the ones pushing this socialism right down our throat, of people getting very upset with them. I want to encourage people not to do any bodily harm, but to go out there and be a voice because people need to be voices. And let's face it Senator Vitter, you, me, we all got to do ... a little part in making this... stop this craziness.
Vitter: Absolutely. And I encourage folks to do their homework, and go to events, or call in shows and ask those specific questions.
So he encouraged us to do our homework, go to events, and ask him (or any one of our elected representatives in Congress) specific questions.
Then, why, I must ask, was his event in Pineville on Saturday morning limited to pre-screened questions from audience members chosen before the event? Don't believe me? Then believe Alexandria's Town Talk, a rather conservative local paper in Louisiana:
The Louisiana Republican spoke at what was billed as a town hall meeting at Louisiana College's Guinn Auditorium. It was a friendly audience but there was little chance for disagreement to be expressed.
The panel of speakers all joined Vitter in opposing the reform package being debated in Congress. Questions from audience members were screened and selected in advance of the event.
Pre-screened questions? Who do you think you are? The President? No, not Obama ... he takes questions from the floor, and they're not screened. Who am I thinking of? Is it George W. Bush? Yeahyourite! He's not even the President anymore, and he's still pre-screening questions!
Good job following the lead of the most unpopular President in our lifetimes, Sinning Senator! |
