LA-GOV: More evidence that Jindal can be beaten ...

Republican billionaire candidate John Georges released a poll today showing that "Bobby" Jindal's base of support is a mere 38%, with 62% saying that they support someone else, haven't made up their minds, or could change their minds before October 20th.

The poll, conducted by Verne Kennedy of Market Research Institute, was taken between July 18-20, and asked 600 voters the following question:

"In the upcoming election for governor, do you plan to vote for Republican Bobby Jindal, favor one of the other candidates, or would you say you have not made a decision on your choice for governor?"

There are two Democrats in the race folks ... follow after the jump for their ads.

What's Georges' Motivation? (0.00 / 0)
Can anybody explain why the LA state GOP hasn't already cleared the field for Jindal?

Why would Georges be in the race at this point?

From what I hear from various sources ... (0.00 / 0)
He hates Jindal, and the politics he represents.

Georges (0.00 / 0)
Don't sell Georges short.  He is an intelligent businessman who made a small forturne.

His ads are good.  They emphasize his family which is an attractive selling point.  Georges comes across as a level-headed candidate.  Also, he has plenty of campaign money.

Georges was intelligent enough to see the Vitter scandal and Jindal's abandonment of Vitter as an opportunity.  I think he believes he can make the runoff.

At this point, I see Georges fighting Boasso for a runoff spot with Jindal.

Three Republicans or ex-Republicans fighting for the runoff spots!  The Louisiana Democratic party needs to wake up.

While Bush is in office, I can't vote for anyone with an R by their name, but Georges is an attractive candidate.

There will only be ONE Republican in the runoff. (0.00 / 0)
And "family values" politics is on its way out in this state ... The Democrats will be highlighting Republican "family values" over the next two election cycles.

Is it a family value to cheat on your wife, as Senator Vitter did?  Is it a family value to vote against raising the minimum wage for thousands of Louisiana families?  Is it a family value to continually deny working families affordable access to health care?  Is it a family value to give corporations tax giveaways, when so many Louisiana families are struggling to get ahead?  Is it a family value to wink and nod to the insurance companies when they raise the insurance rates 300-400 PERCENT in New Orleans?

Yeah, Republican family values is working out REAL well for us.

Jindal Support Drops (0.00 / 0)
Good news!  It is not too surprising.  The Boasso ad is extremely effective.  Boasso sold his company for $60 million (I think that is the total) so he will have plenty money to continue running ads.

Boasso comes across as the hard-working little guy that makes good.  A great tale!

But Georges also has plenty money and is attacking Jindal very hard.  The Vitter scandal and Jindal's doublecross of Vitter has really energized Georges who sees a great opportunity.  The Vitter people must be swarming to Georges.

Campbell has less money than Boasso or Georges but he has the great issue:  taxing the oil companies.  He also is, apparently, the best speaker.

Now that Jindal looks beatable, it is a new ball game.  We may get some additional candidates making a last minute entry into the race over the next month.  Why not?  It is the opportunity of a lifetime for a candidate like Mitch Landrieu, Ieyoub, Melancon, Treen, Nagin, etc., These well-known candidates can enter at the last minute and still be competitive.

My big fear has been that Jindal would win in the first primary.  That looks unlikely now.

Jindal is Fighting Back! (0.00 / 0)
The Jindal campaign has apparently been shocked out of their lethargy and is fighting back:

1.  Jindal bumper stickers are suddendly appearing in large numbers in Terrytown where I live.  A moderate amount of yard signs are also appearing.

2.  Worst of all, a bumper sticker linking Jindal with LSU is showing up in Terrytown.  This apparently unauthorized use of the LSU trademarked items could be very effective for Jindal because the citizens of the state are crazy about LSU.  According to the Baton Rouge advocate, LSU has asked Jindal's campaign to stop using LSU stuff but the response from Jindal's camp is fuzzy.

The Jindal people know a good issue when they see it.

And Jindal never got close to LSU when he went to college.  I think he went to Brown and Oxford.

Just when I thought Jindal was down and about out,  he comes through with this bombshell.

Note:  The Baton Rouge advocate (online) has more on this story.

It seems that this is not the first time it has happened, and LSU has precedent to nix it in the bud.  Susan Heik Terrell tried it in the past.

From seeing Boasso (0.00 / 0)
It appears that he's running exactly the right sort of campaign, and I'll confess, I'm rather impressed.

I've mentioned before, if not in this forum, that the secret to winning this campaign will come down to who can 'take the fight' to Jindal. Boasso's proved to be just that guy, which is a shame, I suppose, as I had hoped that Foster Campbell would do that.

But, the paper cutout ad today, about red beans and rice and Jindal and Bush was definitely clever. And, old boy Boasso comes off as awfully sincere. He's winning me over, I confess.

But, anyway, I'm here in Baton Rouge, which, outside of suburban New Orleans, is his power base. Jindal's support has always been from college educated suburban whites. Jefferson, the North Shore, and the Baton Rouge metro are his keys to getting elected.

Now, most of my friends and family in Avoyelles/St. Landry, and in North Louisiana still regard Jindal with a bit of suspicion. The real question is: can Boasso chip away at Jindal in Baton Rouge, Jefferson, and the North Shore?

If so, we got our winner right there.
