| UPDATE: CenLamar points out that Governor Jindal has appointed Big Oil Lobbyist and Jindal Campaign Fundraiser Stephen Waguespack to be Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy. The Advocate informs us that Campaign Manager Timmy Teepell will serve as Chief of Staff.
UPDATE II:: Oyster tells me that a commenter over at Ashley Morris' blog named KamaAina coined the nickname "PBJ" for our new Governor-elect. DKF regrets the error, and thanks Oyster for clarifying the point.
 Well, it's starting to get real, folks. It's been a mere two days since the jungle primary, and it's starting to dawn on me that we've got a spanking, brand-new Governor-elect. The sad part, pointed out by Oyster over at over at YRHT KamaAina over at Ashley Morris's blog is that his name appeared on the ballot as Piyush "Bobby" Jindal ... you know, PBJ!
Anyway, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate, he and his staff are gearing up for the transition process, looking at office space over at LSU, as well as naming a Transition Director Chairman, the publisher of the Baton Rouge Business Report, Rolfe McCollister, who has, since 2000, donated $12,450 to David Vitter, "Bobby" Jindal, Richard Baker, Suzanne Haik Terrell, and George W. Bush.
So, we're likely to see solid GOPers filling the appointed positions that PBJ can fill. Fine by me, as long as they are qualified for their positions, unlike Michael Brown. The article further goes on to say the following:
Jindal said he also does not plan to get involved in the selection of the legislative leadership unless there is a standstill.
Really? So PBJ doesn't plan to indicate to the Legislature his preference for the Speaker of the House, a job traditionally filled with the Governor's pick? I ask this, because for months, I've been hearing that Rep. Jim Tucker (R-Terryville), was the presumptive Speaker if Jindal won the Governor's chair.
Is PBJ hedging his bets, in light of Rep. Tucker's ethics problems? Color me skeptical, as I find it hard to believe that PBJ wouldn't help out an ethically-challenged friend, in light of all the votes he made in Congress doing just that. |
