Here are the results of the LA-01 Democratic Primary with 501 of the 505 precincts reporting:

Candidate Votes % of Vote
Vinnie Mendoza 5,083 30%
Gilda Reed 11,721 70%

And the Repewblican Primary:

Candidate Votes % of Vote
Tim Burns 9,631 28%
Ben Morris 7,388 21%
Steve Scalise 16,799 48%
David Simpson 932 3%

The GOPers are heading into a run-off between Scalise and Burns.  There are only 4 precincts left to report in Jefferson Parish, which is Scalise's base, and 25 precincts to report from Washington Parish, which is on the Northshore, and it is no friend of Scalise, as it is one of two parishes he will lose tonight.

Scalise gets more votes than Mendoza and Reed combined.

Folks, while I think LA-06 is a real possibility for a pickup, this race is the definition of long-shot.

Don't be so sure ... (0.00 / 1)
Scalise has some BIG skeletons in his closet.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

To the "expert" naysayers.... (0.00 / 1)
Continue to underestimate me.  There are some surprises coming.

Dr. Reed (0.00 / 0)
First off, let me say that I'm delighted to have you in the game down there in LA-01, and that I've got dozens of friends and family members in St. Tammany, and that my mother and sister lived happily in JP for quite a few years. Were they still there, they'd be out knocking on doors and waving signs for you....

And, heck, I'm no 'expert naysayer', I'm just some politics-addict from South Baton Rouge.

Dr. Reed: I will be delighted to be proven wrong. Actually, tell you what... if you wallop Mr. Scalise (heck, if you walk away with 50.0% + 1), then I will drive to Metairie, pick you up in my mid-sized American car, and take you to St. Tammany (sorry, I think JP comes up a little short in the fine dining game), to the snazziest restaurant you can name  - and I will gladly treat you to a wonderful meal.

I figure the JP->St. Tammany ride will take about 45 minutes. In that ride, I encourage you to tell me just how wrong I was.

And, to be frank, Dr. Reed, you'll have made me happier than I possibly could express on a blog, as then, our party will have secured 4 districts, representing the good people who live everywhere from the Atchafalaya to the Pearl, the Gulf of Mexico to the Mississippi state line.

Can you stand a Cazayoux/Reed/Melancon/Jefferson delegation?

Are you ready for November? I sure as hell am!

Hi, The Giant Squid! (0.00 / 1)
I am going to beat Scalise and you do not owe me anything.  Nor do you deserve me telling you "I told you so" for 1 minute, much less 45.  You are not alone in your misgivings and have every right as a private citizen to express them.  My regret is that the DCCC is participating in all of this speculation and harming me by not keeping its official mouth shut.  My mama always taught me that if you do not have something nice to say, then say nothing.  The DCCC is publicly stating to reporters that District 1 is a Repub seat and Dem candidates will not be supported by the DCCC.  Like hell it belongs to the Repubs!  (By Repub I am referring to the head honchos and not everyday misguided constituents.)

Beary, representing Sect of State Dardenne's office, publicly stated to reporters last week that everyone knows a Dem cannot win and that Dist 1 will remain in Repub hands.   This was an ethics violation.  Civil service employees cannot even place yard signs in their yards, but a leading public servant can be so publicly partisan?  A Dem Party worth its salt would have responded in outrage.  Ours stood silently.  Perhaps it is because our party is guilty of saying the very same thing.
