Pointe Coupée (pop 22,763) is Cazayoux country.
Ninety-three percent for Cazayoux. The Cazayouxs are a well-respected family with deep ties to the region. That he did well here is no surprise to anyone, but it's always nice to see a candidate with a dedicated base.
(Incidentally, Decuir claims quite a bit of family out here as well).
But, the real story here is that Cazayoux earned three times as many votes as all Republicans combined.
Let's move across the river, shall we?

Riffing on my earlier theme, Cazayoux did quite well here, scoring 459 votes compared to 541 for all Republicans combined.
West Feliciana, (pop 15,535) has historic ties to Pointe Coupée (nearly everybody here has a cousin across the river), and Don's well-respected for bringing funds to this parish, which his district overlaps. (I believe he secured them quite a bit of capital for establishment of police and emergency services facilities).
It also has an almost even white/black distribution, with each pop group accounting for 49.5% of the population. And, we end up seeing an almost even break down along racial lines. Michael Jackson enjoyed considerable support in the parish, to be sure.
As West Feliciana has closer ties to the city of Baton Rouge (many WF residents commute to Baton Rouge), both Decuir and Kopplin fared better.
And let me ask the question: Are the Republicans just that demoralized this election?
