House: LA-01, Scalise: NAY LA-02, Jefferson: YEA LA-03, Melancon: YEA LA-04, McCrery: NAY LA-05, Alexander: NAY LA-06, Cazayoux: YEA LA-07: Boustany: NAY
So much for the concern about the Blue Dogs defecting here.
As it's turning out, the House and the Senate are slowly waking up to the fact that they aren't beholden to Bush. The Senate vote appears to be a veto-proof majority, not a veto override. Althogh, it looks like it passed the House by a 58% (not veto-proof) margin.
So, why the NAY votes?
I suspect this:
Individuals earning $500,000 or more would pay a surtax of 0.47 percent on income above $500,000 and the tax would apply to couples on incomes above $1 million.
From the once-liberal TNR.
Apparently, VP selection is more of a media game than it is an actual reality for the electorate. Apparently, on the one hand, you've got a majority of voters who don't even care who the VP, and you've got a slim minority (mainly poll-and-election obsessed people like much of the political blogosphere) who read VP selection as important (but, typically, only to buttress our support of candidates in areas where we feel them to be 'weak').
But, I think Webb will steadily improve as a Senator, and very well grow into the media's 'go-to' guy on military affairs (and, quite possibly, the white working class and Appalachia).
