And how did our Louisiana Delegation Do? (0.00 / 1)
Senate:
Landrieu: YEA (Cosponsor of the original bill)
Vitter: YEA

House:
LA-01, Scalise: NAY
LA-02, Jefferson: YEA
LA-03, Melancon: YEA
LA-04, McCrery: NAY
LA-05, Alexander: NAY
LA-06, Cazayoux: YEA
LA-07: Boustany: NAY

So much for the concern about the Blue Dogs defecting here.

As it's turning out, the House and the Senate are slowly waking up to the fact that they aren't beholden to Bush. The Senate vote appears to be a veto-proof majority, not a veto override. Althogh, it looks like it passed the House by a 58% (not veto-proof) margin.

So, why the NAY votes?

I suspect this:

Individuals earning $500,000 or more would pay a surtax of 0.47 percent on income above $500,000 and the tax would apply to couples on incomes above $1 million.

Obama needs to reach out to veterans (0.00 / 0)
and one way would be to put Jim Webb on the ticket.  I realize many people think he's a bit extreme but he would solve any problems Barack has appealing to veterans and those "hard working white people" in Appalachia who flocked to Hillary late in the race.  The Bush administration has shamelessly exploited the military and the veterans who have served us so well.  Let's not only reach out, but follow through.  It's the right thing, the least thing we should do, and it will work for the country in the long run.

Although I love the idea of Jim Webb on a ticket (0.00 / 0)
I've recently come around to realizing that vice-presidential candidates really don't matter all that much to the electorate, and only slightly help candidates in their home states. Something like a 0.4% improvement.

From the once-liberal TNR.

Apparently, VP selection is more of a media game than it is an actual reality for the electorate. Apparently, on the one hand, you've got a majority of voters who don't even care who the VP, and you've got a slim minority (mainly poll-and-election obsessed people like much of the political blogosphere) who read VP selection as important (but, typically, only to buttress our support of candidates in areas where we feel them to be 'weak').

But, I think Webb will steadily improve as a Senator, and very well grow into the media's 'go-to' guy on military affairs (and, quite possibly, the white working class and Appalachia).

Some possibility of Clark is out in the air. It could be Obama's way of healing the party since Clark is a Clinton supporter. Webb is a great choice also.

Sleazy Scalizy is voting exactly... (0.00 / 0)
as expected--100% Bushie bullshit.

You planning another race out there anytime soon? (0.00 / 1)
State house? JP PJ?

Sorry, Squid. (0.00 / 0)
Just became aware of your comment.
I am not planning on running for any other office.  The only reason I ran for this one is because no other Dem was willing and I was sick and tired of being yanked around by the Repubs.  Politics is only for rich folks or people who owe rich folks.

Hmmm ... Gilda. (0.00 / 1)
I'm "in" politics by virtue of this blog ... and I sure ain't rich!

I should have qualified "politics".  I meant running for public office.

It is amazing that (0.00 / 1)
we can afford to pay mercenaries hundreds of thousands of dollars to do jobs soldiers do for half, then want to deny those soldiers education benifits. I say we cut blackwater's contracts and use that money to fund the GI Bill.
