The folks that qualified yesterday AND Wednesday are in green text, unless they have are a Democrat AND have a website that I can find. If they are Repewblicans, then they have no linky to their site. This is a progressive website, and there is no need to link to those we are trying to defeat. The folks that qualified today are in black. So, without further adieu:

LA-Sen

Three candidates qualified today:

John Neely Kennedy, DemocratRepublican

Mary Landrieu, Democrat

Robbie Stewart, No Party

Richard Fontanesi, Libertarian

Senator Landrieu is currently on her "Winning for Louisiana." There will be events in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles and New Orleans over the weekend. The New Orleans stop will be the final one, and that is being held at the Basin Street Station in New Orleans. You find out about the rest of the stops in the Events Box up in the right corner.

The field you see up there will likely be who is on the ballot come November, as Mr. Stewart is running as an Independent, and will appear on the November ballot. The entrance will likely make things very difficult for the former Democrat turned Republican who now says party labels are irrelevant. I say that because Mr. Fontanesi is a Libertarian and will likely earn votes otherwise intended for the Republican nominee.

LA-01

Jim Harlan, Democrat
M.V. "Vinny" Mendoza, Democrat
Steve Scalise, Republican

There will be a "primary" on the Democratic side. It will be an easy romp for Mr. Harlan, as Mr. Mendoza will suffer the same fate he did back in March. LA-02

James Carter, Democrat
Troy "C" Carter, Democrat
William Jefferson, Democrat
Byron L. Lee, Democrat
Helena Moreno, Democrat
Cedric Richmond, Democrat
Malik Rahim, Green Party
Kenya J.H. Smith, Democrat

"Jerry" Jacobs, No Party

Anh "Joseph" Cao, Republican

This is likely to remain in Democratic hands, no matter the outcome of the Democratic primary. The real fight here will be on September 6th.

LA-03

Charlie Melancon, Democrat

Charlie won his re-election by acclamation. That's more money that can go to Don Cazayoux, Don Cravins, Jr., Jim Harlan, Mary Landrieu, and whomever comes out of the Democratic primaries in LA-02 and LA-04.

LA-04

Willie Banks, Democrat
Paul Carmouche, Democrat
Artis "Doc" Cash, Democrat
John Milkovich, Democrat

John Fleming, Republican
Chris Gorman, Republican
Jeff Thompson, Republican

Chester T. "Catfish" Kelley, No Party

Gerard J. Bowen, Jr., Other

So we'll see one Democrat and one GOPer on the November ballot in the 4th along with Mr. Kelley and Mr. Bowen.

LA-05

Rodney Alexander, Republican

A Republican has stepped forward to take on the traitor ... his name is:

Andrew Clack, Republican

No Democrat emerged to take on the traitor. Oh, well. This race will be decided on September 6th. My guess is that the traitor will win handily, but what do I know about GOP politics?

LA-06

Don Cazayoux, Democrat
Bill Cassidy, Republican

Michael Jackson, No Party
As far as I am concerned, the Democrats in the State House ought to dump Mr. Jackson. Let him run as an Independent from here on out. Party rules require Democrats to support the Democratic nominee in general elections, and Mr. Jackson is blatantly dissing that rule. Come on EBR Democrats, show Mr. Jackson that you've got a spine!

LA-07

Don Cravins, Jr., Democrat
Charles Boustany, Republican
Peter Vidrine, Other

This is your ballot in the 7th!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Jackson the independent. . . . (0.00 / 0)
"Party rules require Democrats to support the Democratic nominee in general elections, and Mr. Jackson is blatantly dissing that rule."  The party is also supposed to stay out of closed primary elections.

Its a lame move by Jackson, but I can see his point. The party needs to just give him what he wants and move on.  The more party supporter beat up a likeable African American politician, the greater the benefit he serves the republicans.

Win or lose, Jackson has the ability to commence a new era in which black voters are not blindly taken for granted by wannabe republicans.

Win or Lose, CRAVINS ... (0.00 / 0)
has the ability to commence a new era in which black voters are not blindly taken for granted by Democrats.

Right sentiment, wrong politician.

I say that because Jackson is being used by the GOP.  His Finance Chair for his State Senate re-election campaign last fall was none other than former Congressman Richard Baker's LAST Chief of Staff.

The Republicans know in this pivotal election year that the only way for them to win in districts like LA-06 is to split the black vote.  Jackson potentially accomplishes this for them, as Cazayoux will likely have to take 90% or higher of the black vote to defeat Cassidy.

Cravins. . . maybe. . . (0.00 / 0)
I wish Cravins luck.  However, I know that he hasn't forgotten the way the party treated his old man. . . I'll be disappointed if he blindly votes as told once he's in congress.

BTW. . . I thought Jackson was in the house.  You may want to double check that.

I about ready to vote for Jackson (0.00 / 0)
Don just doesn't get it.  From nola.com
U.S. Rep. Don Cazayoux:

"I commend President Bush for ending the executive moratorium on offshore drilling. During a time in which American families are struggling due to the high price of gasoline, we should use all available resources in order to increase our supply of energy.

"In addition to helping ease pain at the pump, expanded offshore drilling will benefit Louisiana, which already leads the nation in offshore drilling. I encourage Congress to follow suit and lift its ban on offshore drilling."

It's about time we got a real Democrat in this seat.

This is not a republican sentiment but common sense. (0.00 / 0)
There are many democrats who believe offshore drilling should be expanded, especially in those states like Florida and CA.  LA and TX have been the backbone of the country's offshore drilling while the other states do nothing but whine about gas prices.

Given current technology and platforms "over the horizon" there is no legitimate reason FL, AL, CA etc. can't help with oil production without harming the tourism industry.  They are slowly discovering that there will be no tourism if fuel prices don't ebb soon.

I actually commend Cazayoux for taking a common sense approach on this issue. . .

Ever been to a Florida beach? (0.00 / 0)
I was born and raised in Florida and I guess I feel like most Floridians (we're called Crackers) do.  I like beach sand without the oil residue, thank you very much.  I've also seen what oil spills do to the corral while diving in Key Largo.  But that's not the only problem I have with Don.  The FISA legislation ticked me off pretty bad too.

I have been to the beach in Florida. . . many times. (0.00 / 0)
Obviously you have not been to the beaches in La.  They are not covered in oil residue, or even close.

The beaches in FL are white and pretty compared to the dark muddy beaches of La.  However, it has absoulutely nothing to do with oil production but geology, specifically, the alluvial deposits that created La.'s coast.

The fact remains that oil production has improved greatly and all coastal states that have oil deposits should share some of the burden in alleviating this fuel crisis.  To say that drilling in FL. would destroy the beaches is simply stating an unsupported conclusion.

La.'s fishery and estuary system has done quite well despite the large amount of oil production on our coasts.  In fact, the recent recovery of sport fishing has more to do with fishing regulations then environmental regulations.

By the way, FL doesn't seem to mind the tons of trash and sewerage dumped just outside of its boundary by the ships, especially when those ships generate tourist dollars.

If you're happy with oil spills on you beaches, then fine. (0.00 / 0)
But don't deny it happens all the time.  Check it out.

Florida is also heavily dependant on it's mangrove marshes to provide a buffer against coastal erosion.  Oil spills off the coast will devastate the fragile mangroves and then you get the erosion that Louisiana's seeing now.

As for the cruise ships dumping garbage, there's nothing the state of Florida can do about it, since it's in international waters.  Furthermore, it's dumped around the area of the Gulf Stream, which takes the garbage north.

You need to read carefully. . . (0.00 / 0)
The oil spills that occur are due to the fact that La's oil transportation infrastructure is three to four decades old.  And even then the numbers are small given the amount of oil transported through this state.  Of course, La. ranks high in terms of states considering the large number of states that produce no or little oil.  I would expect those to have few if any spills.

What really concerns me are the extraordinary non-scientific leaps in logic that the public has swallowed without questions.  Oil spills have nothing to do with erosion in this state.  Our states coasts are eroding becaue of the Ms. river control structure (which is in east-central La.) that prevents diversion of water down the Atchafalaya.  The second reason for erosion is the dredging necessary to keep shipping lanes open also causes essential sediment to be dumped of the edge of the continental shelf.

There are a lot of dems who understand that industrial progress does not mean environmental disaster.  However, some would have us believe that the two are mutually exclusive.  Drilling is going to be a necessary activity until alternative fuel sources are viable.  Unfortunately, hybrid cars are not "alternative" in that they require petrol for the generator to make electricity for the electric motor. (Hydrogen fuel cells are the only realistic alternative now.) Fortunately, drilling and oil production do not equal evironmental disaster as most dems seem to believe.
