LA-02: Helena Moreno's "Wetlands"

Ms. Moreno seems to be staking her campaign on the shame of the Bush Presidency and the Nagin Mayoralty ... the slow pace of rebuilding New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina, which is not a bad strategy ... but I still can't shake the feeling that she's setting herself up for a run for Mayor in 2010:

That's an interesting thought Ryan. Care to elaborate? Do you have any inside info?

It's just a gut feeling based on the fact that... (0.00 / 0)
she's got lawn signs all over Uptown ... in the parts that are NOT even in the district.  And when I mean NOT in the district, I mean NOT in the district - around Tulane and South Carrolton, which are Congressman Scaleaze's territory.

That would be extraordinarily selfish... (0.00 / 0)
given the damage she could do if she ends up in the runoff with Dollar Bill Jefferson.

I can't help but feel like a vote for her is a vote for Jefferson given the realities of this district. I find it hard to believe that voters are really ready to give up the only minority held district in favor of a tv reporter with some friends who like to dabble in politics. If it's her and Dollar Bill, I see people voting for "our" congressman or voting for a guy they figure will be in jail before his term is up, giving them a chance to do it all over again. Sometimes the stakes are too high to take chances like that...

But I've been wrong before.

nuh uh.. I don't THINK so (0.00 / 0)
You said, "I find it hard to believe that voters are really ready to give up the only minority held district in favor of a tv reporter."

Several years journalistic experience outweighs serving time on the Parish Council... so, which minority did you have in mind? ... and don't throw Jefferson in there-- he's toast.

I like her. (0.00 / 0)
Helena Moreno was always a serious reporter-- no frills- in spite of the attractive, cute little blonde image she projects.   However, I see her trying to tone down that image-- trying to look older.. letting her hair go dark, and pulling it back into a low bun.

Can you see her against one of those big burly male candidates? Bless her heart-- that "little girl look" is usually a good thing-- but not in politics.

I wish her luck, she's sharp.
