LA-06: Cassidy Admits He'd Have Voted For Bailout

Last week, Republican hopeful Bill Cassidy admitted that he would have voted for the Bailout of Wall Street (free subscription). I assume that he is trying to make a distinction between him and Rep. Cazayoux, who voted against the bailout BOTH TIMES.

However, this is not a distinction that I'd wanna be making, especially in light of the fact that the Bush Administration has not exactly explained what they were going to do with the $700 billion bailout in the first place, other than ensure that the Titans of Wall Street and the banking industry keeps their insane salaries and golden parachutes.

Don's statement after voting against the Senate version of the bailout makes the distinction quite clear:

"Today, I cast my vote against Senate version of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. This was decidedly one of the toughest votes I have taken during my career in elected office, but I am confident that I cast the right vote. It is my firm belief that giving Wall Street $700 billion in taxpayer money is not the right way to solve the fundamental challenges facing our economy and financial markets. I was hopeful that the new compromise bill would have a smaller pricetag with less taxpayer liability, but it did not."

I guess Cassidy believes in socialism for the wealthy, but not for the rest of us.
