LA-01: Scalise Is Having Money Troubles

I hadn't thought of this, but a press release put out by Jim Harlan's campaign makes me wonder ... if the reason that Steve Scalise is on a Congressional junket to Alaska to publicize the Republican dream of drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge is because he is looking to raise some dough from the oil interests.

After all, he's got some $211,000 in the bank, but he also has over $192,000 in debts to settle, which means that he's got a mere $19,000 to play with right now. That $192,000 is not personal funds that he donated to his campaign, but money he owes to vendors.

The Harlan campaign wants to know why Scalise has to go all the way to Alaska on taxpayer money when he can question the oil companies right here in Louisiana about why they are not drilling on the oil leases they currently have in the western half of the Gulf of Mexico?

Scalise is a shameless, seat-hopping politician. (0.00 / 1)
His ANWR jaunt is for the same purpose as his pitiful media stunt at a Metairie gas station during July 4th recess.  He is campaigning on the cheap to hold the office he won with less than 10% of voters (over 310,000 did not vote).  This is a desperate attempt to hold onto the office bought for him by the Republican Party without a cent of his own money.  The recent robo-call blast to elicit constituent questions is a hoax in line with the above.  If Scalise was really interested in what constituents had to say, he would not have dodged campaign forums or ducked REAL questioning and debating by coming late and leaving early from the few he graced with his presence.  Before the May election, constituents were told he would not be in BR for 2 weeks due to campaigning.  Yet, 2 major news forums were told that his last minute no-shows were due to duties on the senate floor in BR.

Republicans take care of their own.  Scalise was promised the congressional seat if he would step down for Jindal and he obeyed not once but twice.  Now Tim Burns is being helped by Jindal to retire campaign debt in an upcoming fundraiser in St. Tammany.  Wonder what kind of deal was struck in the week preceding the runoff in April?  Sure must be nice to have that kind of party support.

As for the ANWR debate, every drop of oil drained there will not sustain us for 2 years.  In the 8 to 10 years it would take to get the oil and begin using it, how much further would we be if we invest the same in wind, water, solar, geo-thermal, etc. sources of energy?  Sugar cane conversion has helped make Brazil energy independent.  Louisiana is sitting on gold.  None of the problems attacking us with corn ethanol would apply to sugar as the crop is not damaged and only the waste is used.  Sugar prices would not soar and the converted fuel is more potent and cleaner than that which comes from corn.  We already have cars invented that run with air, water, vegetable oil, electricity.  It is a matter of time before we are capable of harnassing hydrogen power.  Why do we continue to put all of our eggs into the basket and deep pockets of the fossil fuel giants?

We must close the Enron loophole and put a cop back on the beat to force energy traders to abide by the same rules every other commodity trader must adhere to.  Our oil prices are being artificially inflated.  It is not simply a question of supply and demand.  What other industry can you think of that can penalize present customers for future projections of anticipated lower profit margins?  Over 50% of U.S. refining capacity is controlled by only 5 huge oil conglomerates.  They want the market tight.  Something is amiss.

Tim Burns and Scaleaze (0.00 / 1)
You said,  "Now Tim Burns is being helped by Jindal to retire campaign debt in an upcoming fundraiser in St. Tammany."

Whoa- Tim Burns? The same Tim Burns who directed private investigators to trace Scaleaze's air travels from Texas to LA.?  (the PI was actually an "adjuster for an Oil company.")

This story is getting more interesting. (0.00 / 1)
Politics is certainly not boring especially in Louisiana.
