Scott Arceneaux, an advisor to former candidate Andy Kopplin, disparaged the Cazayoux campaign's ability to attract widespread support, both within the confines of LA-06 and nationally.
The fact that labor unions endorsed Don is one of the reasons he was able to outraise his opponents. It opened the doors to more money coming in, as the political maxim - early money is like yeast - is proven true time and again, election cycle after election cycle.
Mr. Arceneaux betrays a misunderstanding in how the DCCC is run when he says that it is obvious that the DCCC is helping Don. The DCCC will speak to and advise any Democratic candidate running for Congressional office, outside of advising a Democratic campaign on how to beat another Democratic campaign. Other than that, they have not gotten involved in LA-06 primary, as they have not spent any money in this district outside of the radio ads they aired blasting former Rep. Richard Baker for voting NO on SCHIP.
Jason Dore, the campaign manager of Woody Jenkins, is deluded if he thinks that Republicans are more energized than Democrats in this district. He points to the percentage of Republicans who voted as compared to the percentage of Democrats who voted in the special primary back on March 8th. I'll let The Giant Squid school Mr. Dore:
Dem Turnout: 47463
GOP Turnout: 29782
That's a difference of 17,681 voters. In favor of the Democratic Party. Tell us again, Mr. Dore, who is more energized? Pretty please?
I took a stab at merging geographic data and precinct results for EBR parish.
They're quantile based, and show relative performance of a candidate.
If anybody wants further detail or breakdown, or has any comments or specific observations, please let me know. This is my first time ever generating electoral results maps. I'm a software engineer, not a GIS analyst.
Special Thanks for vlancast for the insights (captured below)
And, who wants a full district map? I need to see some hands.
This is the fourth of a series of posts on the voter turnout throughout the 6th CD in Louisiana. You can view the first post here. You can view the first post here. In that post, I analyzed the voter turnout in Pointe Coupee Parish and West Feliciana Parish, which are on the northwestern edge of this district. You can view the second post here, where I analyzed turnout in East Feliciana and St. Helena Parishes. You can view the third post here, where I analyzed turnout in Livingston and Ascension parishes. Today, I look at turnout in West Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes, in the southwestern corner of this district below the flip!

Tonight, let's move further to the northeast, shall we?
First off, let me offer congratulations to both Don Cazayoux and Michael Jackson for their performances in this election. And, let me commend Kopplin and Decuir supporters for the energy and passion they brought to this race. I'd love to see Don earn your support.
This morning, I was talking with a buddy of mine, a brilliant carpenter who was a staunch Kopplin supporter. He told me: "Go check out the secretary of state, and see how well your boy Cazayoux did - cause he's got my support and he can win the whole thing."
Here are the results of the Democratic Primary with 500 of 512 precincts reporting:

All the votes left to be reported in the Democratic Primary are in East Baton Rouge Parish.
And the Repewblican primary:

Nice to see that GOP voters in this district are comfortable with a man who paid David Duke during his 1996 Senate race against Mary Landrieu. I call it for Jenkins because all that is left to report is East Baton Rouge, which is his base. Jenkins is at the magic # - 50%. Can he stay there?
Tomorrow morning, (Friday, March 7) two Democratic candidates - Jason DeCuir and Andy Kopplin - for LA-06 will appear on the Engster show from 9 AM to 10 AM.

There was a debate held at LSU last night. You can read the Advocate's account of the debate here and LSU's Daily Reveille's account here. I must say that the Advocate's take on the event is misleading at best, and a downright lie at worst. After all, there were a number of questions, and only 1 dealt with the War on Terror.
Here are the topic of the questions in the order they were asked:
Traffic in BR
Wiretapping/FISA
Diversity in the workplace
Balance of Power between Congress and the Executive Branch
War on Terror
Education Funding
Carbon Emissions
School Reform
Dealing with aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
Current Member of Congress Candidate Admires
Stance on Life, Marriage and Taxes
The Reveille gets its better than the Advocate did, as there were two questions dealing with education, and one dealing with the War on Terror. To be more specific, the question on the war was "what lessons would you take from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?"
By far, the best one-line answer to that question was, "Make sure we elect the right person to be President of the United States," by Michael Jackson.
Since there were so many questions, I will break down each candidates' performance, highlighting their best and worst moment. Follow after the JUMP!
As usual, I will put the candidates alphabetically:
Also, there is a Drinking Liberally event scheduled for Wednesday night at Chelsea's in Baton Rouge, starting at 7 PM. I may be a little late, as I have to work, and then go home to walk my dog, but I will be there. Hope to see y'all there!
(To know how DeCuir is violating the law as well, please scroll down to the bottom of the post and read The Giant Squid's comments)
It pains me to criticize fellow Democrats, but when they violate federal law, I must, in the hope that they will rectify it. Democratic candidates Joe Delatte and Andy Kopplin are violating the Federal Elections Commission Act § 441(d)(1), which states:
§ 441d. Publication and distribution of statements and solicitations; charge for newspaper or magazine space
(a) Whenever a political committee makes a disbursement for the purpose of financing any communication through any broadcasting station,
newspaper, magazine, outdoor advertising facility, mailing, or any other type of general public political advertising, or whenever any person makes a disbursement for the purpose of financing communications expressly advocating the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate, or solicits any contribution through any broadcasting station, newspaper, magazine, outdoor advertising facility, mailing, or any other type of general public political advertising or makes a disbursement for an electioneering communication (as defined in section 304(f)(3)) (2 U.S.C. § 434(f)(3)), such
communication:
(1) if paid for and authorized by a candidate, an authorized political committee of a candidate, or its agents, shall clearly state that the communication has been paid for by such authorized political committee.
Don't believe me? Check out the photo to the left. See a "Paid for by Andy Kopplin for Congress" anywhere? And that speck of white print in the lower right corner is the mandatory union made label all Democrats put on their signs. I find this very interesting, as you can see the Paid for by Andy Kopplin for Congress in his campaign commercial at the very end of it.
What's the deal?
Joe Delatte, another Democrat, also does not have the required "Paid for by Joe Delatte for Congress" on his lawn signs. He hasn't even registered with the FEC, though he may not have to if he doesn't raise or spend more than $5000. Come to think of it, Mr. Delatte doesn't even have the union made label on his lawn sign either! Some Democrat he is. I'll have a picture up in a while. I have to get one of the sign by the I-10 exit on Dalrymple in Baton Rouge.
I should point out that Ms. Calongne seems intent on buying the Republic (reh-pew-blic) primary, as she has loaned her campaign $115,000 and donated another $25,000, so her real contributions number $72,432.
Also, Mr. Cloonan has not registered with the Federal Elections Commission as required by law!
Former LRA head Andy Kopplin, a Democratic candidate for LA-06, released the ad below moments ago. It will go on the air in the Baton Rouge media market tomorrow.
A note to readers - I have yet to see anything for Jason DeCuir out there, and I've driven quite a bit of the district in the last few days.
I saw a billboard on I-10 heading toward majority African-American districts off Plank Rd. in Baton Rouge for Michael Jackson. I would be very surprised if Michael Jackson's campaign went on TV. I expect him to do a stealth field operation that will bus African-American voters to the polls on Primary Day, along with radio ads, which is what gave former State Senator Cleo Fields his victories in election after election, and it provided State Senator Yvonne Dorsey her margin of victory over Mr. DeCuir for Fields' old State Senate seat last fall. (That State Senate District is completely within the border of LA-06.)
First, let me explain why I refuse to link to Vinny Mendoza at this site. He's a perpetual candidate that has run for LA-01 in 2004, LA-02 in 2006, Governor in 2007, and now he's running again in LA-01.
Second, I finally had the time to look up Jason DeCuir, Michael Jackson, Andy Kopplin's websites. They are posted under '08 Candidates.
Also, lest DKF be branded as favoring Don Cazayoux before I make an endorsement, I will be pulling Cazayouz's name from the fundraising links, and putting up the General Fund for the eventual nominee.
However, so did State Rep. Michael Jackson, who has yet to even hold a
formal announcement press conference that he is running. Nor does he have a website. But he has filed with the FEC, which allows him to start fundraising.
So far, we have two GOPers running - former State Rep. Woody Jenkins and health care consultant Laurinda L. Calongne. State Rep. Hunter Greene, at press time, has not filed his papers yet.
UPDATE: Another Democrat has already filed his papers to run - a Joe Delatte, a construction worker from Zachary; and former Louisiana Recovery Authority leader Andy Kopplin is expected to file his papers tomorrow, the last day of qualifying. On the GOP side, Rep. Baker's former Chief of Staff, a Paul Sawyer, filed his papers as well.
UPDATE II: As expected, former LRA head Andy Kopplin got in the race. Surprisingly, failed State Senate candidate Jason DeCuir got in the race as well.
On the GOPer side, a Michael Cloonan of Slaughter, LA also got in.
